Get to France

As you might already guess from the title, we made a little trip to France! First we spent two nights in Paris (no, NOT one night in Paris, what a pitty!)

by the banks of the Seine at night:

Notre Dame:

Birds are evil:

already preparing for retirement:

funny person watching the traffic in Montmatre. i couldn't actually find out what he was doing exactly - besides reading the newspaper... if you have a hint for me, tell me ;)

the interior of our hotel in Montmatre, next to Moulin Rouge. it looked a bit like a maison de plaisir and our tiny room had a huge mirror right next to the bed... *ggg*

one of the mills in Montmatre:

Montmatre:

an ad in a metro station for some coffee. it was so funny that i had to buy it. guess what, it works - at least, i do NOT look like that guy after drinking it, hehe!

the Eiffel tower and me (in memoriam of my bonnet, which i lost in Rennes...)

have a break, have a biiig break... after all we're here for holidays and not for fun:

the cathedral of Saint Malo, Brittany!

a breizh arrangement ;)

the port of Saint Malo:

the quai at low tide:

due to the warm weather we even fancied taking a bath at the outdoor swimming pool:

view from the castle to Saint Malo intra muros:

taking a rest in the sun (listening to breizh music):

there's three french words, i will remember for all my life: "La mer mont!"

...this means "the sea is rising!" if you ever happen to hear this, get yourself immediately to the main land, or you will become very wet or even drown...

me in the morning (very tired) at high tide:

the medieval city of Rennes:

the cathedral of Rennes:
the clouds over Paris in the evening:

bye-bye and au-revoir France!

On the sunny side

Do you know the feeling, when everything seems to get very very narrow around you? when the walls of your room or the mountains surrounding you seem to move closer?
then it's time to either consult your psychologist (not me!) or - get away!

we decided for the latter and took the tramway that leads out of the innsbruck valley up to the stubai valley.

this tram is really climbing up the hills over innsbruck and moving over slopes up to the neat village of fulpmes, where one can go skiing if he likes (but i never like to anyway).

of course one should at least have enough provisions of food, because you never know whether this tram - which is already about 100 years old, and so is the trackage - might have a breakdown and you will have to stay in the "pampa" of the tyrolean mountains...

i mean, it's beautiful eh....

Multireligious excursion

Last weekend we went on a field trip with the European Ethnology class to Vorarlberg, the far west of Austria. We visited the Jewish museum in Hohenems, spent the night at a Buddhist monastery in Frastanz and had a chat with the head of the Islamic club in Feldkirch.

In the former Jewish quarter of Hohenems:
