New Life

These days i'm writing to reach you - anyone, since i don't have an internet-connection yet for my new flat *boring* Well, but besides that little blemish, my little flat is great and i quite enjoy living alone in the city. As soon as i can, i'll post some new photos for you.

As the region of Salzburg is very rich of folk customs, especially when talking of winter customs, I'm introducing today the "Glöcklerlauf":



Men with huge beautifully decorated illuminated caps are running in circles, spirals and bows through town bringing luck, light and mercy and driving the winter away.

Railroad Dreams

From time to time an old railway with steam engine is going down the way from Salzburg to Oberndorf - especially during christmas time! And as my little nephew is a great railroad-fan himself we went to watch it!

Von Zeit zu Zeit fährt eine alte Eisenbahngarnitur inklusive Dampflok von Salzburg nach Oberndorf - vor allem in der Weihnachtszeit! Und da mein kleiner Neffe ein großer Eisenbahnfan ist, mussten wir uns das natürlich ansehn!

Last weekend we did a "scorpio-party" in between our birthdays, so we could celebrate them all together.

Yesterday the yearly Leonhardi Ride took place in Kundl/Tyrol. as i am studying european ethnology, this was going to be subject to an excursion! it's an old custom where people are riding their horses in a procession to the church of S. Leonhard. Then an outdoor mass is celebrated followed by a blessing of the horses. Read more

there are moments in my life when i only want to be alone. sometimes i have to find myself again. then i'm going home. home to my family and my old friends where i used to live for such a long time.
even if november is said to be the month of the dead, it isn't for me. it's rather the month of sleeping new life. everything has come to an end and is now waiting till the winter's end.

es gibt momente in meinem leben, in denen ich nur alleine sein möchte. manchmal muss ich mich selbst wieder finden. dann gehe ich heim. heim zu meiner familie und meinen alten freunden, wo ich für so lange zeit gelebte habe.
auch wenn der november als der monat der toten gilt, ist er das nicht für mich. er ist eher der monat des schlafenden neuen lebens. alles ist zu einem ende gekommen und wartet jetzt auf das ende des winters.

well, well... summer's gone, autumn's here. and so is uni's semestre's beginning. again getting up early in the morning when it's still dark and dull outside... i'm already counting the days till winter solstice - when days are getting longer again!
